Apple is set to “revolutionize” yet another industry. They have done it with the music industry, the mobile telecommunication industry, and look set to do it with the mobile computing industry through the new iPad. The new iPad is positioned as an alternative to the hot-selling netbook PC’s which have generated huge revenues for computer giants Dell, HP, and Acer. Netbooks have been a huge success because of its ultra portability and extremely cheap price compared to a normal laptop. Apple’s new iPad will be competing directly with the netbook industry with Apple’s version of what a real “netbook” should be.
The new iPad looks like an oversized iPod Touch with a 9.7 inch LED widescreen multi-touch display. It looks like Apple is fully utilizing their multi-touch technology to create products that have been proved very popular. Apple’s new iPad features include:
• browsing the internet
• checking e-mails
• viewing photos
• reading e-books
• playing video games
• listening to music
• watching videos
Basically the new iPad enables people to do the most basic computing tasks that has become a daily routine in today’s information era. People want something that is affordable, portable, and user-friendly which is exactly what Apple’s new iPad is offering. With a starting price of just $499, it looks certain that the new iPad is on the wishlist of many people from all walks of life.
Since the new iPad will not be available till April 3, the anticipation for this next ‘big thing’ from Apple is clearly gaining momentum as we can see from the various news and blogs that are constantly raving about the new iPad even though it’s not yet available.

After being launched worldwide on 3rd April 2010, iPad already noticed a huge number of customers brave out to buy Apple’s new device i.e. iPad. When the world of technology is abuzz with the new ‘iProduct’, can India be far behind? It is expected that Apple’s iPad would create a new user segment in the market of India soon. But when will it come to India?
Many tablets have already debuted in the market and we can easily say it is the time for tablet revolution. The concept of tablet PC, so far, is not very popular among Indian consumers, so iPad needs to go through this mass market hassles.
Experts say that this tablet category device would create a niche market for itself and Indian users are waiting for that product, which would emerge as a lifestyle product, and obviously not a mass product in India.

But at the same time it is true that iPad would face a challenge for several other branded laptops and tablet devices, which offer same features at the same range of price. So, Indian consumers may think twice before they invest in an iPad. Although, many people hope that the secret of this device’s success in India may lie in iPad applications and features that may take away the need of carrying hefty laptop.
Of course, the naysayers may remark that iPad is not appropriate for Indian market, but the reality shows that there is a curiosity, an interest and intent. Crazy users may hope that Apple would plan for thousands of utility iPad applications to make it more popular. But how much of craze can be converted to sales – we would like to leave that to Apple.

The device will be available in March, and said to be transformed the mobile, eBook reader and PC industry. The company had also used its own processor, called A4 chip in the tablet. In addition, the new device will support about 140,000 apps that are available on the App Store.

In 2001, Microsoft had predicted that tablets would be the most popular form of PC sold in America within five years.
